Selected Things #6
Digital Doritos, Antimatter, and Le Labo
Every couple weeks, I’ll send you a quick hit of books, articles, recipes, products, etc that are –in my humble opinion– worth your valuable time. I do this for you because life is short and we’re already wasting too much time doomscrolling on socials, right?
BOOKS MOVIES!
“Sorry, Baby”
Not sorry
I’m going rogue. It is so rare that I see two films in one week–we’re going to celebrate it. In “Sorry, Baby,” something bad happens to an MFA student at a small college, and the film shows you how she moves through the experience. Of course it’s sad, but mostly it’s witty, and I was riveted. The small-scale indie pacing feels like a ‘90s throwback, and that’s a good thing.
“Project Hail Mary”
Go for the karaoke scene alone
I realize you don’t need me to recommend a blockbuster movie, but I want to call out a few things. Firstly, let’s hear it for science! Woot. Secondly, I think the fancypants reviewers are being needlessly haughty about this flick by nitpicking about how it’s funny. Maybe that’s ok? Must all the doomsday content be so doomy? Thirdly, the karaoke scene.
